Oh yay! There will be a new Miyazaki film in U.S. theaters in time for my birthday. I will definitely be seeing this one in the theater. If my three sprogs are very good boys, I may take them with me.

Saw Angels and Demons which I thought was less cheesy and more entertaining than the first movie. Plus some Ewan McGregor never goes amiss, though I don't believe he sang in this movie. Less enjoyable was High Fidelity, a John Cusack flick from awhile back. We ended up turning this one off for one reason or another, and when A asked me the next day if I planned to finish it, I responded, "Only if the next plot development involves the main character dieing in a fiery explosion." You see, the MC is examining why all of his relationships fail. At the midpoint of the movie he concludes, correctly I might add, "I am a fucking asshole." Yet, he seems completely oblivious to the fact that he has found the answer he's been seeking. Also saw Knowing which seemed pretty pointless unless you like disaster porn or Christianity porn, though there was a very pretty, preternatural young man with white hair and a taste for black overcoats over black clothing.

May I love you for hate hate hating High Fidelity? P.S. I still fondly recall your support for the unforgivableness of using the phrase "liquid panty remover." *shudders*

:D :D :D Yes!! Your love for Spirited Away had at least some hand in introducing me to his films.

Yay! I am pleased to share the hate of High Fidelity and the love of Spirited Away. ^.^ And I still use the example of watching Alien on your tiny black and white TV in the middle of the afternoon as the scariest goddamn movie experience ever. The fact that it could scare me so badly under those circumstances - man, Ridley Scott is a frickin' genius. That, and watching Das Boot in German class with all the lights off... the bit where the bolts start popping out because of the pressure, and they have to be quiet because they don't know how the Allied subs are tracking them... eeeeee. My memorable high school movie experiences. ;)

Ohh and it's based off the Little Mermaid. I wonder if the ending will have her die ? I love Hayao Miyazaki, Princess Mononoke was the first major anime film I ever saw. My most favorite of his movies is Howl's moving Castle. I think I have seen a dozen times. Have you ever watched My Neighbor Totoro together with Grave of the Fireflies ? I know that's how they orginially showed them together. To go from extreme happiness to sorrow is a trip.

I got the idea that the big similarity with the Little Mermaid was that she wants to be a person. Beyond that I don't think the story is much the same. Howl is my favorite too. I like some romance and hero's with a bit of monster in them. ;) I have never seen Grave or any subtitled versions which shows you what kind of fan I am. :P But I would like to!

Well that's how I started out. You can always try it in English or subtitled. But Grave of the Fireflies is something everyone should see, it's like the anime version of Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List. It is quite sad, but stings at your heart. Here is the information about it,

Though I would reccomend not showing it to the children until they are older.

New Myazaki! Yay!

Hmm, somehow you intrigue me with Knowing...no, it's not the disaster or Christianity porn...I'm so easy!

Yay! indeed. :)

Heh, I added a screen capture to the post. Alas, that pretty much sums up his role in the film.

Knowing disappointed me, too. The preview made it seem like a different type of movie than it would be; had I realized it would have such a depressing ending I never would've bothered with it even if it did have Nicholas Cage in it. I don't go to the movies to get a downer like that.

I didn't know anything about it going in other than it had Nicolas Cage. But yeah, I would be bummed if I hadn't gotten to see it for super cheap. On the other hand, Bangkok Dangerous hardly had a happy ending. Might be a pattern for him.
