A was coming out of a client's place the other day and ran into a woman pursued by a very friendly cat. They were in a more or less residential area at that point, but the woman was concerned that the cat would follow her into the downtown area where there were busy streets. So A put it in the car and brought it home. My mom, who is not pro-pet (which is a laugh when you see how she dotes on her hens) shook her head. She had advised against replacing our late cat. "It's not our cat," I insisted. "We're just trying to find its real home." "Are you feeding it?" "Yes. Of course we are." "Then it's your cat."

But, last night my Craigslist ad bore fruit, and the cat was reunited with its original owner. He seemed almost overcome with emotion, though the cat was less than thrilled with the pet carrier he brought with him and wouldn't go in. A happy ending. Too bad my mom's phone was busy last night so I couldn't tell her 'I told you so.' Or maybe not, because the cat was back at our back door this morning meowing for kibble. :|

Cute story. The cat might travel to both houses for food. Lucky you. [kidding]
My husband feeds any cat who comes to the house. Drives me crazy. We have 1 inside/outside cat and 3 outside cats plus any cat that are not chased away.

How are your house plans coming?

A found the cardboard pet carrier out on the sidewalk this morning. O.o I think the cat got away from him. It looked like it was gearing up to make a mad dash for freedom. We offered to let the owner put the cat in the carrier in our house. Then we offered to shut the screen door on the porch, but he refused both. Whatever!

I'm not much better than your man when it comes to feeding cats. At our last place I had two indoor/outdoor and three ferals that looked hungry. Here, the old lady next door feeds all comers so I guess I don't feel the need. I'm sure the 'not our' cat thinks it hit pay dirt, pestering children not withstanding.

So far we got a loan for the project, and we've gotten some estimates for the plumbing. After waffling on the permitting issue, I think we've decided to apply for a permit for the window replacement, and the wall that divides the current living room. That way a bedroom count of 'three' for our house is legitimate should we decide to sell. I'd like to post a pic of the final drawing. :)

Cat loyalty and affection seems to be bestowed on whim or feed.

It is better to have changes in the house legal so there are not problems down the road. I'd love to see your updated plans.

We had an addition with bath and kitchen construction 2 years ago. [Messy but it's over.] We live in NY and it is dark a lot so I wanted more light, too - bigger windows and skylights. I'm guessing in California, that is not your problem.

Awww reuniting cats with cat owners is the best thing ever!!

The whole thing has been odd and entertaining. I'm not sure why he came to retrieve it, only to lose it again. The cat is getting plenty of kibble out of the business so it's come out ahead either way.

It's good to have the cat reunited with its family.
But cat have a good memory when it comes to where to get food. :)

Yes! It seemed like a lucky break that took an odd twist.

Cats. We had a cat that kept getting fatter and fatter, and my mom tried to put him on a diet. Still kept getting fatter and fatter-- of course a neighbor was feeding him. When we moved (with the cat!) the neighbor came over and told my mom what to feed him... The cat was not happy in the new house with his diet kibble. And of course ran back to the neighbor...

Cats!

Clearly the way to their hearts is through their stomach. :) It's a little hard to get choked up about that sort of affection, but the kids certainly seem to like it.
