Slaving on my rental's landscaping has gotten me inspired, so I measured my backyard and made a Plan. The outlined areas will be raised beds. I haven't decided on materials yet. I will also have to take out a patio sort of thing and a 18 foot long wall of ivy. There are probably spiders in it that will try and climb on me. Ick. But, I must be brave.

I can't believe I have so much yard all to my own self!! :D

There will be herbs, and corn flowers, and deeply colored snapdragons. Pineapple Sage bushes as tall as me, and the kids will pull off their flowers and drink the drop of nectar from the tiny red straws. Buddleias, catmints and lavendars of all sorts. Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, but with 99% less 60's pop folk-rock. I like things with scented foliage and that attract bees and butterflies and hummingbirds. I'm also hoping to grow lettuce, and squash and baby corn. Apparently lettuce can be grown year-round around here.

OOh, I love snapdragons! I just planted some myself the other day; they're my favorites!

I have a tiny back yard/ garden, most of which is gravel. I have a nice bed though, and I just put in a retaining wall, and some flowers. I'm very proud of myself! In one corner I planted cucumbers and peppers. I'm very excited, though it remains to be seen how well they'll survive the combination of rain and beniegn neglect!

Snapdragons seem to be popular, and they will do the perennial thing sometimes which I like. Mmm, a retaining wall, you should be proud. :) Where are you located that you get a lot of rain? I'm on the CA coast so I have a pretty mild climate, but it does rain a lot in the winter.

When I moved from Colorado and saw the new climate zone on my garden catalog, I did a little dance and told my hunny, 'I'm in the Zone!!' I much prefer milder climates.
