Slaving on my rental's landscaping has gotten me inspired, so I measured my backyard and made a Plan. The outlined areas will be raised beds. I haven't decided on materials yet. I will also have to take out a patio sort of thing and a 18 foot long wall of ivy. There are probably spiders in it that will try and climb on me. Ick. But, I must be brave.

I can't believe I have so much yard all to my own self!! :D

There will be herbs, and corn flowers, and deeply colored snapdragons. Pineapple Sage bushes as tall as me, and the kids will pull off their flowers and drink the drop of nectar from the tiny red straws. Buddleias, catmints and lavendars of all sorts. Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, but with 99% less 60's pop folk-rock. I like things with scented foliage and that attract bees and butterflies and hummingbirds. I'm also hoping to grow lettuce, and squash and baby corn. Apparently lettuce can be grown year-round around here.

Oooh, snapdragons! [livejournal.com profile] panzerwalt is the gardener in my household... hm, now I'm tempted to pick up a packet of carnivorous plant seeds and send that to you. :)

I love carnivorous plants but have always failed with them in the past. IIR plants start eating bugs because their well-rinsed soils are devoid of nitrogen. I'm not so good with the watering... Many of the herbs evolved in a Mediterranean climate where mamma nature forgets to water for months at a time, hence their ability to thrive under my care.

But I like 60's pop folk-rock. :P

You garden sounds like it's going to be a delight, and a labor of love. I hope you're enjoying the creation of it as much as you will the end result.

I like it too actually. :) But my garden is not going to be quite so... something--rebel in search of a persona?

It will be a labor alright. It would be so much easier if I could just hire some people who know what they are doing to come build it all and call me when they are through. :P I figure I can use the exercise.

I love gardens at the planning stage. Mine was so much a question of recovery rather than building. i wish you every joy. I was planting dark red snap-dragons today!

It sounds gorgeous. I must admit I don't know a thing about gardening even though my dad and little sister actually do know what they're about. My dad keeps our roses, ivy, calla lilies & so forth looking nice, and my little sister grows veggies in her backyard.

OOh, I love snapdragons! I just planted some myself the other day; they're my favorites!

I have a tiny back yard/ garden, most of which is gravel. I have a nice bed though, and I just put in a retaining wall, and some flowers. I'm very proud of myself! In one corner I planted cucumbers and peppers. I'm very excited, though it remains to be seen how well they'll survive the combination of rain and beniegn neglect!

Dark red snapdragons! Yes! I will be wanting me some of those. My garden is kind of a building on the ashes of the demolition thing.

I don't know if I know anything about gardening. I get lots of plants and the ones that thrive are the ones that are a good match for me. I don't like poisons or daily watering, so plants that are attacked by bugs, or wilt if not watered more often than weekly, I must bid adieu to. Fortunately, I like herbs which are basically weeds that smell or taste good.

Snapdragons seem to be popular, and they will do the perennial thing sometimes which I like. Mmm, a retaining wall, you should be proud. :) Where are you located that you get a lot of rain? I'm on the CA coast so I have a pretty mild climate, but it does rain a lot in the winter.

When I moved from Colorado and saw the new climate zone on my garden catalog, I did a little dance and told my hunny, 'I'm in the Zone!!' I much prefer milder climates.

That looks ambitious! I have a black thumb and am always envious of other people's yards. Good luck with the new project.
