Meat Potpourrie
Mar. 2nd, 2012 08:32 pmI think some of the smell of pet shelters is the numerous bowls of carnivore kibble scattered about. I thought perhaps it was clinging to me, and then I realized it was probably the sack of food on the front seat. Meet 'Bennie' the Abysinnian tabby. I fell in love with a shy kitty with a loud, rumbly purr, and 9YO wanted pretty much any cat he could take home TODAY, but we already have a kitty that prefers grown-ups so we decided to wait for half-grown Bennie who is said to be very forward and make much more use of the 'Be my friend forever' and 'Let's play' in his kitty vocabulary than Jones does. He'll be available on Tuesday after a 'trip to the vet'.
I got to hold a newborn baby between my hands, just for a minute. Sometimes I desperately want a baby to hold. My arms seem to ache with emptiness. It's wild. I wonder if this isn't some sort of grandmotherly urge kicking in. In most of human history, I would be solidly a grandmother at my age. But it might also be because my 'baby' is six, again, time for a new pregnancy, biologically. I find myself interested in acquiring more pets. Cats, chickens, maybe even a dog.
I took the boys out for nachos and milkshakes. The gentleman farther down the counter paid for our snack on his way out, without ever saying hello. I thought this was pretty neat so I paid for the guy on the other side's lunch.
